Crowned the Green Capital of Britain, sustainability has long been on the agenda of Brighton and Hove.

Here are just some of the awards the city has won that help make Brighton the perfect choice for a green break.

Green Capital of Britain

Brighton and Hove was recently named the green capital of Britain by an Asda survey. According to the survey people in the city buy more organic food and recycled goods than any other town, as well as eat twice as much organic food than anywhere else in the country.

Jubilee Library – Observer Ethical Award winner

The eco-friendly Jubilee Library, in the city's Cultural Quarter, won its first sustainability award in the Observer's Ethical Awards. The Awards, which focus on solutions that will make the world a greener, fairer and more equitable place, voted the library the country's most energy-efficient public building, based on criteria such as social inclusiveness, accessibility, the environment and resource conservation.

Innovative and modern, Jubilee Library takes advantage of natural energy provided by sunshine and wind. Its magnificent glass south-facing frontage links the inside and outside spaces and is a modern architectural treat in itself.

Earthship Brighton

Winner of various awards, Earthship Brighton is a solar powered, self-sufficient, eco friendly building built from used tyres. Designed to reduce our impact on the planet, whilst increasing our connection to it, Earthship Brighton offers regular fascinating tours for visitors. Well worth a visit.

Blue Flag Beach award
