Welcome to the First World War Centenary Site for Brighton & Hove

August 2014 marks 100 years since the start of the First World War.

The war had a huge impact on those who experienced it and its legacy resides across the globe, but also closer to home in family histories & the heritage of local communities, such as Brighton & Hove.

To mark the 100 year centenary Brighton joins a host of nations, communities & individuals in remembering the lives of those who lived, fought and died in the War.

With its significant links to the First World War, Brighton & Hove will play an integral part in the commemorations through a range of events, exhibitions & cultural programmes, including War Stories: Voices from the First World War (runs until 1 March 2015) at Brighton Museum & Art Gallery.

Explore this site to find out about the centenary events happening across the city in 2014 and discover the city's fascinating historical connections to the First World War – from the hospital at the Royal Pavilion to the Chattri Indian War Memorial on the stunning South Downs.
