Each fortnight, VisitBrighton will be interviewing a different Brighton local about why Brighton is such a fabulous place to live and visit!
This week we caught up with Alan Wood, Director and Chief Instructor of SailnetUK. It might be us, but we think he quites like the sea!
How long have you lived in Brighton?
Alan: About 14 years on and off. But Brighton is a bit like Hotel California, once you’ve lived here for a while, you can check out any time you like, but you can never leave… Welcome!
Where do you work?
Alan: In Brighton Marina, in a floating office. I move up and down 7 meters in a day, with the tide, without even leaving my seat!
What’s your favourite thing about living/working in Brighton?
Alan:The variety of things to do, the diversity of the people, the bohemian atmosphere...and the sea.
What's the funniest thing that's happened to you in your job?
Alan:Watching the deputy mayor dancing to Brighton’s Gay men’s choir at the Euro Gay Cup Regatta awards ceremony. Unforgettable.
Who was the last Brighton celeb you saw?
Alan: I don’t have a TV so I wouldn’t recognize one if I saw one!
What’s a ‘Must See’ on a visit to Brighton?
Alan: Brighton sea front from the sea.
What's your top local tip for visitors to the city?
Alan: Use public transport.
What was the last film you saw?
Alan: Run Fat Boy Run. Did you know the last scene was shot in Brighton Marina.. not St Tropez? Our company did the safety boat cover and supplied the lifejackets in case any crew fell in!
What was your most memorable night out in Brighton?
Alan: Oh dear...way too many.
What's your top tip for a lazy Sunday afternoon in Brighton?
Alan: Sipping a glass of chilled champagne on the deck of a luxury yacht.
What's on your stereo/Ipod/gramaphone at the moment?Alan: Radio 4’s afternoon play.
Which Brighton resident (dead or alive) would you invite to dinner? Chris Eubank, The Prince Regent, Norman Cook, Zoe Ball, Dave Lynn,Nick Cave, Laurence Olivier, Joan Plowright or Mark Little?
Alan: Have you seen my kitchen?!
