Carroll Lewis
The author's sister lived at 11 Sussex Square from 1874 until 1887 and he was a frequent visitor. The tunnel in the private gardens of the square is said to have inspired the opening chapter of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland.
Greene Graham
Novelist whose most famous work Brighton Rock followed the illicit dealings of the 1930s race-gangs that operated from the Racecourse. The novel was filmed on location in Brighton in 1946 by the Boulting Brothers and starred Richard Attenborough as Pinkie.
Kipling Rudyard
Lived in Rottingdean at the Elms from 1897 until the family moved to Bateman's at Burwash in 1902. Kipling was a journalist, a best selling poet, children's author, novelist and master of the short story. His memorable works include 'The Jungle Book', 'The Just So' stories and 'Kim'.
O'Donnell Peter
Author of 'Modesty Blaise' books (Kemp Town).
Rattigan Terrence
Famous playwright who spent the sixties at a Regency House in Marine Parade, Brighton.
