Brighton & Hove has a rich musical heritage, past and present.
Quadrophenia
This Who's rock opera about mods and rockers in 60's London, was originally released as an album in 1973. In 1979 the transition was made to film starring Phil Daniels as Jimmy, Leslie Ash as Steph and Sting as Ace. Brighton was the main location for the action as the mods rode their scooters to the coast for the weekend.
Primal Scream
Singer Bobbie Gillespie and guitarist Robert Young lived in Brighton. Their albums include 'Primal Scream', 'Screamadelica' and 'Give Out, But Don't Give Up'.
The Piranhas
Brighton based post punk group reached no. 6 in the charts in August 1980 with "Tom Hark". The following year singer "Boring" Bob Grover had a big solo hit with the memorable "Zambezi".
Abba
The Swedish The Swedish supergroup first took to the international stage when they won the Eurovision song contest with "Waterloo" in Brighton's Dome in 1974. Look out for Abbafest from 11 - 13 June 2004 celebrating the 30th anniversary of Abba's Eurovision win at the Brighton Dome.
Ringo Starr
Came to Hove for his honeymoon in 1965 but had to flee when the press found out.
Bing Crosby
Pipe smoking crooner and star of numerous Hollywood films including "White Christmas" played his last public performance at the Brighton Centre on 10th October 1977.

Penny Lanes Gallery - This shop at 35 Upper St James' Street in Kemp Town is home to everything Beatles related. Fab four memorabilia, modern collectibles plus Yellow Submarine original animation art.

Jump The Gun
The place for Mod revival gear including Ben Sherman's, Harrington jackets and tailor made tonic suits. Jump on your Lambretta and check them out at 36 Gardner Street in the North Laine. Other musician residents past include: Genesis P Orridge (Throbbing Gristle & Psychic TV), These Animal Men ('New Wave of New Wave' band), Huggy Bear (Riot Grrl).
