Working & Studying

Other things to ask yourself before you arrive are: Do I need a work permit if I want to do part-time work?, do I need a Visa?, what about health insurance?
Overseas students do not need a work permit to take part-time and vacation work while they are studying. There are still some restrictions such as the hours per week you are allowed to work, the kind of work you can undertake and the type of position you are allowed to fill. For help and advice on working and studying in the UK go to www.ind.homeoffice.gov.uk.
Depending on which country you are from, you may need a visa to study in the UK. You will also need proof of certain requirements such as the language school that has accepted you, which course and how many hours you will study, how you will pay for the course and when you plan to leave the UK when you complete your studies. www.ukvisas.gov.uk gives advice on all visa requirements and shows a student how to apply. It is also advisable to check with your nearest UK Overseas Mission - applications may be made to the Visa Section of a British mission.
Remember also that any of the Language Schools mentioned here will be able to give help and advice.
