Brighton & Hove has just been named the most continental city in Britain beating Liverpool, Belfast and Edinburgh. London only appeareed at number eight on the list.
Overall the study (commissioned by Heineken) found that Britons were embracing continental attitudes be it a kiss hello or having a nap during the day in order to stay out later, as well as using words such as siesta in everyday language.
Another key factor was the fact that British people are eating more continental cuisine, which is probably one of the main reasons why Brighton was at the top of the list as there are over 400 restaurantts in the city with influences from around the world. It is not only the flavours which have inspired Brighton restuaranters but also the way we eat. For example Pintxo People and Graze have both moved away from the traditional three course meals to either a tapas or grazing menu, where you get a series of small dishes so you get to try more without getting bloated.
