myhotel Brighton shortlisted for five design awards

Since opening this summer, myhotel Brighton has caused a stir. From the brilliant white façade to the inspirational interior, this new 80-guestroom property in the cultural quarter has become synonymous with cutting-edge design. As a testament to myhotels’ dedication to the aesthetic, the hotel has been shortlisted for five categories in The European Hotel Design Awards 2008 – a celebration of the best-designed new hotels that have opened in Europe in the last year.

With a panel of judges, led by Jeremy Blake of Purcell Miller Tritton, The European Hotel Design Awards honour new hotels that not only demonstrate creative excellence but commercial viability. Looking for projects that are aesthetically impressive, the judges also want to see evidence that winning designs have met the needs of clients and customers alike within a sensible budget.

This year, myhotel Brighton leads the way with five nominations across the categories. myhotel Brighton is being considered for Best Architecture (new build), Best Interior Design (conference, meeting & banqueting), Best Interior Design (lobby and public areas), The Innovation Award and The Technology Award.

There is potential for myhotels to pick up a further gong in The European Hotel Design of the Year Award, which will be announced at the awards ceremony on Thursday 6th November 2008 at the new Sofitel London Heathrow Terminal Five. This year’s ceremony is to be presented by celebrated chef, author and TV presenter Anthony Bourdain.

Visionary and founder Andy Thrasyvoulou comments; “myhotel Brighton is the shared aesthetic ideal of leading New York designer Karim Rashid, feng shui expert William Spear and myself, with significant influences and works from local designers and artists. Led by the vision of ‘Freddie Mercury meets the Maharishi’, the hotel is a stunning example of sexy cutting-edge design and state of the art technology, juxtaposed with serene spirituality and timeless feng shui. I am thrilled that myhotel Brighton’s distinctive individuality is gaining the recognition it deserves and I am extremely proud of all those who worked so hard to realise its potential. I hope that the awards will encourage more people to come and explore our invigorating hotel in one of the country’s most exciting destinations”.

The European Hotel Design Awards are held in conjunction with The Sleep Event exhibition and conference, taking place on 4 and 5 November 2008 at the Business Design Centre, London. For more information on the awards and The Sleep Event, visit www.thesleepevent.com
