Sushi lessons at Oki-Nami

15th December 2009

Categories: Media News Archive

Brighton’s original Japanese restaurant, Oki-Nami, co-owned by DJ Norman Cook, is now offering Sushi workshops where you can learn the traditional art of Sushimaking.

Oki-Nami’s acclaimed Japanese chef, Mike Dodd, who has over 15 years experience teaching and preparing Sushi, will be hosting the workshops. The afternoon starts out with a look at the equipment and ingredients used in the preparation of the meal, followed by a Sushi making demonstration. Pupils will learn the art of how to cook the perfect Sushi rice, how to cut fish correctly and how to prepare and roll fillings such as the California Roll. As you work, Mike will also talk you through the history of Sushi.

Sushi Workshops cost £75 per person. For bookings please contact Oki-Nami on 01273 773 777.

The Sushi Workshops not only offer a great day out but have health benefits too. Eating fish is not just recognised as good “brain food” - it is also beneficial for the heart, helps to boost the immune system and contains the essentials fats necessary for an all round balanced diet. Sushi is also rich in Omega 3 fats (good fats), which help to protect the nervous system and provide Vitamin D and proteins. These good fats can also help prevent mental illness and can help in keeping your blood sugar levels at a healthy range.

In addition, the Japanese have the lowest obesity rate in the world – just 3% as compared to 11% for the French and 32% for the Americans. They have extremely low rates of heart disease and also live longer than any other country in the world (there are now over 40,000 people aged 100 or over living in Japan). The healthy Japanese diet is a key factor in these statistics.

So if your New Year's resolution is to eat more healthily book yourself on the Oki-Nami Sushi workshop
