Frequently Asked Questions

I get lots of calls asking me to feature on different websites, why should I choose visitbrighton?
VisitBrighton is the official visitor website for the destination with links to major industry sites such as VisitBritain and Tourism South East.

What we are offering is not just a page on a site but a year's marketing of the destination and your business including:

  • representation at workshops and exhibitions each year both nationally and internationally
  • a substantial on line advertising budget to ensure that our site is the highest ranking on the search engines
  • participation in up to 6 campaigns each year including on line and postal promotions supported by big city sponsors and competitions
  • the opportunity to work with us on trade and press familiarisation trips - we entertain in excess of 100 travel trade professionals and journalists each year, who write features and articles about the city as a tourism destination.

Why do you only work with rated accommodation providers?
VisitBritain's National Quality Assurance Standards Scheme, guarantees the visitor set standards of facilities, services and cleanliness. All properties are inspected once a year to ensure they are working within the grading the hotel/property has been awarded.  It gives the visitor a clearer guideline as to what they are paying for and what they can expect from a property.

How can a small business benefit?

  • Our Partnership fees are based on the size of a business so the small businesses are not asked to contribute the same fee as the large. We have aimed to make the fee proportionate to the potential return on investment.
  • With the combined force of our Partners we are able to represent the city as an important destination for business and leisure tourism.
  • We offer exposure to all our Partners on a major website, on street touch-screen kiosks,  within the visitor information centre, featuring in relevant trade and public literature, via the call centre, at exhibitions and workshops. We work hard to attract major conferences often securing world conventions.
  • The work we do to promote sustainable tourism benefits all local tourism businesses however small by attracting large numbers of high spending visitors to our city.

How many visitors does your website get each month?
We are currently attracting 130,000 unique visitors to our site each month. This is a great increase on the number of visitors this time last year. We believe the reason for this is due to the work we are putting into optimising our site so that it moves up through the ranking on popular search engines such a Google, Msn and Yahoo. While we are waiting to reap the results of this strategic work we have been using paid advertising, called pay per click, on search engines to ensure we appear as a top result.

If you are directing visitors to the website aren't you cutting out a portion of potential visitors who don't have website access?

  • We are keen to encourage as many potential visitors to our website as possible because this is a good way to capture their data for future mailings.
  • We feature our telephone number, fax number and postal address when promoting our services so that all potential visitors have a means of communicating with us.
  • Although we no longer produce an expensive accommodation guide, once we know what the visitor is looking for we will provide them with a print-out of their own personal itinerary to include accommodation which is available when they want to visit in a price range they wish to pay and can include places to visit, eat and transport facilities. Rather than send the same piece of print out to every one we will be tailoring the print to meet the customers needs. With the money we save not producing the accommodation guide we can run more tactical campaigns.
