Brighton is green capital

Brighton Jubilee Library.Brighton and Hove has been named the green capital of Britain. People in Brighton and Hove buy more organic food and recycled toilet paper than any other town. They also eat twice as much organic food than anywhere else in the country, according to a recent Asda survey.

This news adds to Brighton's growing reputation as a leading 'green' and sustainable city. The eco-friendly Jubilee Library, in the city's Cultural Quarter, recently won its first sustainability award in the Observer's Ethical Awards and Earthship Brighton, a solar powered, self-sufficient, eco friendly building built from used tyres, is designed to reduce our impact on the planet, whilst increasing our connection to it.

Brighton is also home to an award winning bus service, with all latest vehicles fitted with particulate traps on their exhausts, which combined with ultra-low sulphur diesel makes them the lowest emission diesel engines in the world.  Continuing the green theme, Brighton's motorised Tuc tucs offer an alternative, virtually zero-emission way to travel around the city. Many of Brighton's hotels are also increasingly focusing on green issues, implementing energy saving devices and sourcing produce from local farms.
