Travelling in Brighton By Foot

Brighton is a very compact city and most places are within walking distance, making it a great place to explore on foot.
The railway station is only 10 minutes from the city centre and the sea is literally a stone's throw from the city's main attractions, shops, restaurants, hotels and nightlife.
In fact most of Brighton & Hove's key central areas are accessible on foot within just 15 minutes.
You might find the following resources useful when walking the city:
- Download one of our handy downloadable Brighton maps to help you find your way around the city
- Explore Brighton on foot with a Brighton walking tour
- Check out Brighton & Hove council walking section - a handy resource to help you get the most out of walking the city.
Think of your safety
Although Brighton is a compact, safe place to walk on foot, please remember to concentrate when crossing the road:
- Find somewhere safe to cross, for example, a pedestrian crossing*
- 'Stop and look' before you step off the pavement
- Look in all directions, as traffic can come from all directions.
*When using a pedestrian crossing, only cross when the green man shows. When the red man shows, do not cross. When the green man signal begins to flash at a pelican crossing, do not cross. Press the button and wait until the sequence begins again.
