Brighton’s largest open garden scheme The Garden Gadabout takes place July 12th & 19th featuring 70 private gardens.
Open on Sundays 12th & 19th July the gardens are divided into 16 easy to manage trails all shown in the Gadabout brochure. Carol Klein of Gardeners World and patron of the Garden Gadabout has helped turn this into a major community calendar event for Brighton. This is a wonderful opportunity to visit some beautiful, inspiring and unique private gardens, as well as helping to raise essential funds for The Sussex Beacon. Many gardens offer the opportunity to enjoy a delicious array of homemade cakes and teas in beautiful surroundings, as well as plant sales and exhibitions of art. The Garden Gadabout is a real celebration of diversity and creativity, from small gardens bursting with colour, to a fern filled chalk garden, from the atmospheric beauty of Monks House to a garden planted with dustbins!
Organized by a small team of volunteers it is hoped the 2009 Garden Gadabout will raise over £25,000 for the Sussex Beacon.
Entrance is £1:00 donation per garden on the door, or newly launched this year are the one and two day passes giving access to all gardens on the trail. £6:00 for one day and £10:00 for two. These passes can be purchased in advance only from 15th June from The Sussex Beacon Shop in St James St or The Brighton Dome on 01273709709.
About the Sussex Beacon
The Sussex Beacon is a purpose built clinical care centre for men and women living with HIV and is one of only two care centres of its kind in England. For the last fifteen years the Beacon has been providing vital services for men and women with HIV via our ten bedded unit, day care services and our health management services. The services are in great demand, our clients needs vary from residential care, to recovery from a hospital stay, terminal care or adaptation to medication. Today there is still no cure or vaccine for HIV so there is a very real need for the Beacon. HIV infection rates are continuing to rise in the UK, with over 70,000 people living with HIV in the UK, it is estimated that one in three people don’t know they have it. HIV is now the fastest growing serious health condition in the UK.
