Description
Saint Paul's, completed in 1848, is an important example of the Gothic Revival in art and architecture, and of the 19th century Catholic Revival in The Church of England. One of the glories of the Church is a complete series of stained glass windows designed by A. W. N. Pugin. There are also slightly later windows by C.E. Kempe. In 1996 the wooden octagon surmounting the Tower was completely renovated and restored.
Worship today is still in the Catholic tradition within the Church of England. Mass is said daily Monday to Saturday at 11:30. On Sundays solemn mass is at 11:00 a.m. and the evening service is at 6:30 p.m.
Saint Paul's has a strong music tradition and a fine choir. The visitors' book bears ample witness to the atmosphere of peace, beauty and prayer that people find here.
Group visits are welcome by prior arrangement.
