About
Sound Affects [http://instagram.com/soundaffectsnight] is a night of talks about music and subcultures, how sound affects us and how music changes the world. Hearing from writers, musicians, artists, superfans, photographers, filmmakers and everyday music-lovers, we dive into personal stories, esoteric bands, fan communities, punk, pop, social change and much more. It's organised and hosted by journalist and documentary filmmaker Jak Hutchcraft. [http://jakhutchcraft.com]
Speakers:
Seana Gavin - Artist for her photographic work, documenting her time immersed in the free party rave movement. From 1993-2003 she would spend long periods of time living nomadic-ly across Europe with the sound systems putting on the parties, such as Spiral Tribe.
Her work has been exhibited at galeriepcp in Paris, Gallery46 in Whitechapel and at the Saatchi Gallery. Her photography monograph, Spiralled, has been published as 3 editions. Her collage artwork has been included in group exhibitions at major art galleries and institutions including The Nobel Prize Museum, Somerset House, The Walker Art Gallery, the Wellcome Collection, and New York’s The Hole. She has been featured in publications such as NY Times, i-D, The Face, Frieze, and The Guardian.
David Bramwell - Musician, broadcaster and author who's written and made programmes about psych music, The Residents, time travel, Ken Campbell and many more weird and wonderful topics. He has delivered two brilliant talks at Sound Affects in the past, one about folk, paganism and The Wicker Man film, the other about a subversive avant garde music project that has become known as The World's Worst Orchestra.
