Brighton on a budget is easier than you think. So if value for money is your favourite mantra check out these ideas for a range of great things you can do in Brighton without spending a penny.

The great outdoors

  • Go to the beach - we might not have loads of sand, but Brighton’s famous pebble beach has been voted one of the top 10 beach destinations in the world. Its also got a Blue Flag award in recognition of water and beach quality.
  • Do the undercliff walk - stretching from Brighton Marina to Saltdean, the impressive undercliff walk is a popular and scenic coastal walk. Of special historical and geological interest, the area is home to fossils of mammoths, woolly rhinos and hippos.

  • Take a swim - a number of hardy Brighton souls take a dip in Brighton’s rejuvenating waters every day of the year. If you fancy an early morning swim, why not join them?

  • Have fun on Brighton Pier - one of Brighton’s top attractions, entry to the famous Victorian pleasure pier is completely free.

Free museums and art galleries

  • Visit Brighton Museum and Art Gallery - a £10 million redevelopment has transformed Brighton Museum into a state-of-the-art visitor attraction. Expect dynamic and innovative galleries exhibiting everything from fashion and style to 20th century art and design and world art. Most exhibitions and galleries are free.
  • Visit Hove Museum and Art Gallery  - with a fascinating permanent exhibition on Brighton and Hove’s contribution to early cinema, as well as frequent changing displays, Hove Museum is a real cultural treat in the heart of historic Hove.
  • Visit the Booth Museum of Natural History - over half a million specimens and natural history literature and data extending back over three centuries are housed in this fascinating museum. Watch out for the badger who inspired a character in the latest Chronicles of Narnia film.
  • Visit the Brighton Fishing Museum - once a small fishing village of Brighthelmstone, Brighton's fishing history is a fascinating one.
