Photomatic is a new photobooth emporium in the heart of Brighton's historic North Laine. Its founder, Eddie Hepburne Scott, previously acquired significant repute for photographing of the likes of Primal Scream, Spiritualized and a diverse array of portrait and fashion pages for such esteemed periodicals as Arena, Sleazenation, The Face and i-D.
Long enamoured by the immediacy and artistic possibilities afforded by the photobooth, Eddie started making his own in 2012 and enjoyed instant success with the booths he'd housed across London and Manchester venues such as Camden Market and All Star Lanes, heralding the birth of Photomatic.
Now Photomatic has its own premises at 22 Gardner Street, offering the same spontaneous studio quality hijinx in colour and/ or black and white. An array of masks, backdrops and daft props are also at one's disposal, alongside the imminent opportunity for individual photo enlargements, bespoke light boxes and private venue hire. The store will also be stocking a carefully selected array of books and prints by affiliated photographers whose style and ethos are in keeping with the interests and history of Photomatic.
We are looking forward to establishing the shop as an essential visit and hangout for local and visiting customers seeking a more fun and tactile souvenir than the common selfie.
