Cycling Routes in Brighton
Brighton & the surrounding areas are ideal for cycling. Cycling in Brighton & Hove is quick, easy and enjoyable.
In the city, Brighton's coastal routes take you towards the Marina and the stunning cliff paths of Saltdean and Peacehaven & beyond. Try the Coastal Cycle Route from Shoreham to Rottingdean for a fairly easy, flat, 9 mile cycle or the Seafront to the Downs Route for a combination of coast & countryside. Download the Brghton & Hove Cycle Map (PDF 1.58 MB) for details of cycle lanes and routes.
Cycling on the Sussex Downs
Outside the city, the bridleways and byways on the South Downs are very popular with cyclists of all abilities & there are many trails available. The 160km South Downs Way is also the only UK National Trail fully accessible to riders.
The National Cycle Network is also a safe, high-quality network of quiet lanes and traffic-free paths. The network includes two main routes in the Brighton area:
- Brighton to Camber, NCN Route 2 - includes dramatic chalk & sandstone cliffs, the South Downs, quiet beaches, and the natural beauty of Pevensey Levels and Romney Marsh. The route (70 miles) can easily be broken up into shorter rides.
