About
Saint Paul's, completed in 1848 and beautifully restored after a fire, is an important example of the Gothic Revival in art and architecture, and of the 19th century Catholic Revival in The Church of England. One of the glories of the Church is a complete series of stained glass windows designed by A. W. N. Pugin. There are also slightly later windows by C.E. Kempe. In 1996 the wooden octagon surmounting the Tower was completely renovated.
Worship today is still in the Catholic tradition within the Church of England. Mass is said daily Monday to Saturday at 11:30. On Sundays solemn mass is at 11:00 a.m.
The church is open for visiting from 10:30am to 12 noon each Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday; from 10.30am to 3.00pm each Wednesday and Saturday, and from 10.30am to 3.00pm on every weekday during the Brighton Festival in May, throughout July and August and over the Christmas period. Groups visits can be arranged on request.
