About

_In memoriam

There is a ship in the desert. Who would say
that this can be, but there is a black rusty ship
sunk in the desert_
- Raúl Zurita

What poetry do we reach for in the midst of crisis? A poetics of comfort or of resistance perhaps? In this session we will read poems by Raul Zurita written in the wake of the Pinochet regime. These are poems of shared grief; poems that have been robbed of their sight and poems that speak of individuals who have been dehumanised and destroyed. They are also meditations of beauty. They are resistant in their continued song beyond all that has been taken. This session will consist of a group reading and an open discussion. All are welcome.
