About

Historical guided walking tour led by a local historian.

Hove has links to the furthest corners of the world through historic battles and far-flung empire. Exploring Britain's colonial past can be difficult: amnesia and nostalgia are more comfortable. This tour uses local history to give a potted history of British imperialism - wars, warts and all.

Queen Victoria, Rudyard Kipling’s “savage wars of peace,” Charge of the Light Brigade, films of colonial rebellions, Isambard Kingdom Brunel,
George Everest, India, Australia, scandal, The Wild West, kidnap & rescue, England’s first colony, the First World War, Rabindranath Tagore,
and much, much more!

Why not come on a Hove Actually Walking Tour? Fun, informative, informal and best suited to the incurably curious. Whether it’s your first visit or you have lived here your whole life, the tours are a great way to discover, uncover and experience the area.

"Fascinating walking tour on Hidden Hove. Rachel is a really knowledgeable tour leader and her passion for the topic is clear. Really interesting stories about places (and the people that lived there) that you walk past every day!" "I really enjoyed finding out so much about the area I have lived in for 35 years!" "As a local there were so many 'Ooh I never knew thats....' crammed in... Rachel is an engaging story teller"
