The Adur Estuary - a Site of Special Scientific Interest

About

Discover theAdur Estuary S [https://www.adur-worthing.gov.uk/adur-estuary/\#about-the-adur-estuary]ite of Special Scientific interestone of Sussexs important and fragile wildlife sites,. With Old Shoreham Bridge at its centre, the SSSI stretches from Cuckoos Corner below Lancing College to the town centre along the western edge of Old Shoreham.

Part of a managed landscape shaped by human activity over thousands of years, this rare remnant of saltmarsh and mudflats supports internationally significant birdlife, acting as a vital feeding ground for migratory species throughout the year. But this remarkable habitat is under increasing pressure from human activity, pollution and habitat loss. Join us for an engaging talk that reveals the hidden story of the Adurwhy it matters, how its changing, and what we can do to protect it.

Presented by the Friends of the SSSI, the talk will describe the saltmarsh's history and ecological importance; and the rivers contribution to place making. Crucially they will set out how these important areas can be protected for future generations of wildlife and human life, the Adur River Recovery project and the Weald to Waves nature corridor which includes the Old Shoreham.
