About

This charming early Georgian building is of great historical interest and is situated in the most attractive part of the village, overlooking the pond and village green. It currently houses a Library, Art Gallery, Museum & Tea Garden. Once a vicarage, it was occupied by the artist Sir William Nicolson (before the First World War) who named it 'The Grange'. It was enlarged in the 1920's by Sir Edwin Lutyens and the Gardens, Art Gallery and Museum are now managed by Rottingdean Heritage.

The Tea Garden is open daily from April – October, 10.30am – 5pm, and is situated at the back of the building in the historic Lutyens Courtyard and beautiful walled garden. Visitors can relax and enjoy morning coffee, light lunches and afternoon teas, with freshly made sandwiches, jacket potatoes, homemade soups, quiches, cakes and scones.

There are various exhibitions by Sussex based artists throughout the year upstairs in the Art Gallery. To see what is currently on please visit www.rottingdeanheritage.org.uk

There are also displays with a local connection in the Museum, these also change regularly, although Kipling's Study and a room dedicated to the celebrated Victorian artist Sir Edward Burne-Jones are permanent features.

The Art Gallery and Museum are usually open from Wednesday to Saturday 10am – 4pm, Sundays 1pm – 4pm. (Check the website for current opening times). The Art Gallery and Museum are closed in January.
