With the downs literally on the doorstep of Brighton & Hove, there's no excuse not to pop on your walking boots and stride off into the countryside and South Downs National Park.

Take in a trail, walk part of the South Downs Way or seek out the Jack and Jill Windmills. The choice is yours!

Downloadable countryside PDF Guides

Brighton and Hove City Council have developed a series of leaflets to help you explore the countryside around Brighton and Hove. These are available as downloadable PDF guides on the right. For hard copies of the leaflets, please get in touch with Brighton Visitor and Information Centre.

Independent walks and trails

There are loads of opportunities for bracing walks and woodland strolls in and around the Sussex countryside. Some start within Brighton itself, such as the spectacular Undercliff Walk from Brighton to Newhaven, whilst others, such as the Stanmer Park award winning walks, are a short bus or car ride away.

Or if you don't fancy exploring the countryside alone, try So Sussex, who offer some great guided Woodland Walks.

Countryside Days Out

If you're looking for a day out in the countryside, there are lots of great options to choose from. From the Indian war memorial, the Chattri, to  Foredown Tower and Countryside Centre, browse the links on the right to find out more.

Take the bus for a walk!

It's easy to get out into the countryside around Brighton and Hove too. And using the bus is a great, sustainable way to do it. Regular bus services serve key areas of the countryside around the city, so why not try one of these ideas for a 'green' day out.
