With countless independent shops plus big name high street stores, there’s no doubting Brighton is a fantastic place for Christmas shopping. But just in case you’re short of time or lacking in festive inspiration, we’ve put together a Brighton & Hove Christmas shopping guide to help you tick everyone off on your list!

For Foodies

Brighton is known for a plethora of independent food and drink shops and producers and of course there are also several vineyards in the wider Sussex area: for a wine connoisseur or a Christmas day treat, we definitely recommend a bottle of English sparkling wine. You can get great local gifts for beer and gin lovers in our city too, thanks to Brighton Bier, Loud Shirt Brewing Co. and Brighton Gin (among others!). And if tea’s more the thing, you’ll find a fantastic range of festive treats at Bird & Blend.

For food lovers, try The Spice Shop or La Cave a Fromage (also a great place for Christmas buffet bits and pieces!). And no Christmas would be complete without chocolate, so pop into Choccywoccydoodah for an array of seasonal offerings.

Last but not least, Steamer Trading Cookshop is perfect for kitchen gadgets and other foodie presents – I can think of a few people on my list who would love a Vegan Cheese Making Kit, or Gin-Pong!

For Grown Ups

From art galleries to boutique clothes shops, jewellery designers and perfume shops, there are plenty of places to find grown up gifts in Brighton & Hove. Try Farah for men’s fashion and Pecksniff’s for a range of perfumes and bath products. At Baroque and Julian Stephens Goldsmith you’ll find jewellery to suit all tastes. Lavender Room is home to women’s fashion, jewellery and accessories, and Utility is a good stop off for practical-but-stylish presents. We particularly like these colourful memo books by British manufacturer Silvine, who have been running since 1837. Perfect for jotting down lists and ideas!

For Kids

Loula and Deer has some wonderful presents for babies and toddlers, including music boxes, wooden playsets and cute cuddly animals. At The Book Nook, you’ll find books and other gifts for children of all ages. It also has a café and a play area for little ones if you’re in need of a shopping break!

For Pets

Don’t forget your four-legged furry friends this year! At Bone Idol in Kemptown, there’s a fantastic range of treats and toys for dogs and cats. You can also book your dog in for a grooming session, so he or she is looking their best for the festive season.

Stocking Fillers

For those little but hard-to-find presents, we are lucky enough to have several gorgeous gift shops in the city. In the North Laine there is Little Beach Boutique, which specialises in beautifully crafted, locally sourced, handmade gifts, homeware and accessories, including Brighton-inspired tote bags, purses, coasters and glass pictures. On the seafront, you’ll find Cad-Eau and a wonderful range of high quality stationery, items for the home, products for pampering and much more. Nearby Oh So Swedish Arts & Crafts is home to a smorgasbord of (as the name suggests) Swedish-inspired delights such as salty liquorice, pine needle soap and Viking and moose cheese slicers.

Little extras

But of course getting ready for Christmas isn’t just about the presents. Creased Cards have a fantastic range of seasonal greetings cards – from humorous to handmade – including designs from Brighton-based Lowe & Behold, well known for their wonderful illustrations. And if you’re planning the décor for your Christmas dinner table, get your decorations from Peach Blossom: they have candy cane bunting, felt Christmas tree napkin holders, crackers and reindeer party hats.

For yourself!

Christmas, while (in my humble opinion) definitely one of the most wonderful times of the year, can be a little overwhelming. To this end, make sure you don’t forget yourself on your Christmas shopping endeavours! Have a browse of Kemptown Trading Post and book yourself in to have your nails done at the same time; visit Beauty Secrets for a treatment or to pick up some gorgeous spa products and treat yourself to a Christmas jumper for the big day from Beyond Retro!

Of course, this is just a small sample of the many shops Brighton & Hove has to offer – if you’re shopping for a music lover make sure you pay a visit to Vinyl Revolution – the shop operates a green and ethical policy too, so your purchases can be guilt-free. For more ethical gifting, have a look in LoveThatStuff at Brighton Marina, which sells only Fairtrade products. Vintage-lovers shouldn’t miss Snooper’s Attic and The Vintage Workshop and there’s a huge variety of shops to look round in Churchill Square and Dukes Lane too.
