Brighton is well-known for doing things differently, this is a never normal city where people can often be heard fondly saying “Only in Brighton!”

The city’s fiercely independent spirit can be felt across the city and is evidenced in our vibrant street art but also in the range of food, drink, and shopping on offer. In fact, we have so many independent food & drink producers that Brighton Food Tours were started specifically to share the stories of our independent traders.

Take a wander through The Lanes, North Laine and the seafront and you’ll see very few chains, in fact if you take the time to get to know our ‘city villages’ you’ll discover that each area has its own distinctive character.  We have independent shops & galleries selling anything & everything, you can buy beautiful bespoke jewellery or even a perfume created to reflect your personality.  

The independent spirit can also be felt in the nearby town of Lewes, as well as being home to the independent cinema Depot, the town also has its very own currency – the Lewes Pound.
