British Airways i360 was taken over this half term by a team of story-telling, swash buckling pirates!

A perfect event for little ones and adults alike, we were excited to go along and find out all about their adventures. This was the first event we’d been to like this in the pod and it was fantastic, the fact you had stunning sea views from 450ft  helped the atmosphere of the stories, it really felt like we were at sea with our two very own pirate adventurers! We started our adventure with two pirate friends who led the children around the pod before settling down to tell a tale of adventure and danger about a group of pirates in search of buried treasure which was protected by a scary monster called the pirate cruncher! My daughter loved the fact they accompanied the tale with music, with one of the pirates playing the fiddle alongside the tale of danger and excitement. It is rare that you see a group of children sitting enraptured but we saw it today.

The pirates had the children laughing and shouting out as the tale progressed, especially with the mention of the Poop deck! As a venue the i360 worked beautifully, I felt really relaxed as the children explored the space with the pirates, and as it is so contained you don’t have the usual concern that the kids might run off anywhere.

There were plenty of pirate sayings for the children to call out at various stages of the story as the pod cruised up above the sea, along with some dodgy counting by the pirates (missing out 5) which the children all took great delight in pointing out to the pirates, and parents. The story was entertaining and fun and kept the children mesmerised for the whole journey. My daughter walked home humming the tunes and has asked repeatedly when we can go and see the pirates again. This is half-term family fun at its best, the i360 was the perfect venue to imagine being out on the open waves and we’ll definitely be looking out for more events there.

  • The Pirate Cruncher is showing at the Old Market, Upper Market Street, Hove BN3 1AS Saturday 2nd November & Sunday 3rd November
