In At Home

When we were getting ready to launch our Never Normal campaign we knew we would need some striking images to reflact the concept: forget the new normal, Brighton was never normal anyway! And when thinking of images to reflect that 'Never Normal' spirit one of the first photographers we thought of was JJ Waller.

JJ Waller's photographs manage to capture the irreverance and free-spirited atmosphere of the city and its people. His photos are not the traditional type that you would expect a tourist board to use as they often show the less glamourous parts of the city but there is always a sense of fun about them and you can tell the photographer loves his subject.

We were delighted that JJ Waller gave us permission to use the above image within the campaign. The photo was used in press advertising, railway billboards and it can still be spotted in posters along the seafront - and on our website of course!

JJ Waller has just released a new collection of his photographs entitled "Sussex by the Sea" as the name implies this edition explores beyond Brighton and into Sussex. You'll see that the spirit of Brighton spreads across the county with photos taken in Eastbourne, Beachy Head, Birling Gap, Wittering, Littlehamption and Worthing. I love the picture postcard format as it taps into the sense of nostalgia a lot of us will have experienced this year.

For anyone who has missed visiting Sussex this year, or wants to be reminded of a favourite trip this is a lovely way to enjoy Sussex at home. The book is available to order via JJ Waller's website: and while you wait for your order to arrive here's a sneak peek at a couple of my favourite photos in the book:
