We've decided to get to know some of our local business partners a bit better - and today we speak to Iain Barron from Brighton Lure Boat...

Iain Barron from Brighton Lure Boat

Tell us about yourself and why you started Brighton Lure Boat

My name is Iain and I am the skipper on board Brighton Lure Boat. With decades of experience fishing off the south coast, I’ve had many years to gain valuable skills in the art of fishing with lures, as well as considerable knowledge of the various fish that can be found in our native waters.

Brighton Lure Boat is a charter fishing company, offering a range of fishing day trip packages and experiences. Through Brighton Lure Boat, I get to spend every day doing what I enjoy most, passing on my knowledge to many different people, from first time fishermen to highly experienced anglers.

What do you love most about what you do? What’s the best thing about your work?

Having a sunrise and an open sea for an office everyday (weather permitting, of course) certainly gives you a great sense of wellbeing and freedom! The most satisfying thing about work for me is when a planned session comes to fruition in many ways; the clients enjoy catching fish, and you never know how big they are going to be, so there is never a dull moment.

What’s your average day like, or is it ever average?

There really isn’t such a thing as an average day on board Brighton Lure Boat. Needless to say, the weather, the sea, and the many species of fish that we come across off the coast of Brighton can be very unpredictable. The unpredictability of what we do makes it all the more enjoyable and worthwhile!

What is the biggest challenge or opportunity for you at the moment?

Every session out at sea is different and there are always a number of factors to take into account, i.e. the sea state and tide etc, in order to get the clients on the fish as quickly as possible and to get the smile counter ticking over nicely.

I always take the personal challenge of establishing myself as a worthy skipper to everyone who comes on board, with honesty and integrity. It’s important to me that clients enjoy themselves and hopefully become regular customers.

Have you got anything new planned for the rest of the year?

We are now partnered with The Watershed restaurant and bar at Brighton Marina Yacht Club to offer our new Catch n Cook experience. If you are looking for an exhilarating seafood experience, then our Catch n Cook trips are as fresh as it gets. After a morning out at sea with us, where you’ll have the opportunity to catch a range of native fish, including Bass, Cod, Mackerel and Plaice, we’ll take you back to land to learn how to prepare and cook your catch with the expert culinary team at The Watershed.

You’ll enjoy your food all the more when you’ve helped bring it to your table!

What do you love most about Brighton?

Brighton is completely unique - there’s nowhere else on the south coast like it.

Thank you!
