As the self-appointed VisitBrighton Elf I couldn’t help but put together my top Brighton Christmas tips, whether you are looking for pagan fire celebrations or traditional family fun, read on to get the downlow on our must sees for the festive season.

Brighton is preparing to welcome the biggest and brightest Christmas market in Sussex this year. With over 150 stalls, live shows, Santa’s workshop and an Après Ski and mulled wine area for grown-ups, this has everything you could want from a festive day or night out.

When Can I Go? 26 November 2021 - 31 December 2021

A typically bonkers Brighton event! What better way of celebrating the winter solstice than parading through the streets of the city with beautiful lanterns?  Banishing the winter darkness outside and getting a warm glow inside – perfect.

When can I go? This is a one-off event on the 21st December

  • Grab a luxury hot chocolate while you enjoy the lights

Hot chocolate and winter nights, is there any better combo? We don’t think so! Head to Knoops to build your favourite hot chocolate and then enjoy the decadent treat whilst looking at the beautiful twinkly Christmas lights.

When can I go? Anytime, lights are due to be switched on from 18th November. Knoops is open 9am – 8pm

  • Brighten up your winter’s evening at Glow Wild

Glow Wild, Wakehurst’s winter lantern trail, is guaranteed to brighten up the dark winter nights. As darkness falls the gardens are brought to life with glowing lanterns, crackling fires, mesmerising projections, and immersive soundscapes. Plus, did we mention the UK’s tallest living Christmas tree?!

  • Get your skates on at the Royal Pavilion Ice Rink

Picture dancing on a stunning ice rink in front of a beautifully lit palace, looking like something off the front of a Christmas card the Royal Pavilion ice rink is guaranteed to get you feeling festive. With a chill out zone, child friendly areas and plenty of space to practice your best moves this is one of my favourite places to top up on festive atmosphere. Did we mention it’s powered by green energy?

  • See top Christmas shows at Brighton Dome

Brighton Dome is always on our festive hit list, from their Festive Family Open Day to magical ballet shows, they always get the balance right. This year they have Circolombia: Acelere a modern, energetic circus, they have such a diverse range of events on, and Christmas is no exception, and we can’t wait to get back to seeing live shows.

When Can I Go? With a varied programme of events check their website to choose your fave.

  • Late night shopping in the North Laine area

Shopping in the North Laine is always a treat, independent traders selling unique and gorgeous gifts, what’s not to love? The North Laine late night shopping offers the chance to enjoy the North Laine area for longer, add discounts, fizz and festivities and we are sold!

When Can I Go? Thursday 2nd December 6 - 8.30pm

  • Traditional Panto Family Fun at the Brighton Centre

You can’t have Christmas without a panto, head to the Brighton Centre to enjoy a traditional family pantomime production of Aladdin. Starring Anita Dobson with jaw-dropping sets dazzling costumes and magical special effects.

When Can I Go? 22nd – 27th December

I defy anyone to find anything more festive than watching a group of Santa’s jog, run or walk along the seafront. This charity event is back and raises valuable money for the Rockinghorse appeal, which raises money for sick children. Grab a suit, book a place, and join in, you can also take part virtually if you’d prefer!

When Can I Go? 11 December at 10.30am

  • Light up the night at Leonardslee Illuminated

Step into a magical winter trail at Leonardslee see the lakes & Gardens as they come to life with spellbinding illuminations, large scale projections, music, and theatrical performances.

When Can I Go? 25-28 November, 2-5 December, 9 -12 December and 15-22 December. Book a timeslot.

We are all about the independents in Brighton & Hove and what better way to buy than meeting the creator in their studio or home? Get all your Christmas shopping done and revel in the glow of supporting a local artist, win-win!

When Can I Go? Weekends 27 & 28 November, 4 & 5 December, 11 & 12 December

  • Meet Santa at 450ft!

The British Airways i360 dons a festive gown and becomes a great spot to visit the big man himself in December. Escape to 450ft above Brighton, meet festive cheeky elves and all children get a gift from Santa, magical. You can even book a breakfast and Santa flight to make sure there are no rumbling tummies in the pod.

When Can I Go? Various flights, between 4 – 24 December, booking essential.

Don your apron, grab some fizz and get stuck in with learning two festive dishes. You’ll be creating two classic bakes including a showstopping Buche de Noel with all the trimmings!  All that is left afterwards is to wow your family with your new festive culinary skills.
