Wakehurst

Borde Hill Garden

Walk along the Seven Sisters
Seven Sisters Country Park is a unique place. It comprises 280 hectares of chalk cliffs, meandering river valley and open chalk grassland. The Cuckmere river flows through the Park and visitors can follow the adjacent footpath from the Visitors Centre to the coast.
Picnic in Pavilion Gardens
What better backdrop to your day out than the spectacular seaside palace of the Prince Regent (George IV), one of the most dazzling and exotic buildings in the British Isles. The Royal Pavilion gardens host a wealth of wildlife and a beautifully restored Regency Garden, the perfect spot to sit after you’ve taken a tour of the palace. Plus if you need to top up your picnic basket the Pavilion Gardens café offer great sandwiches and cakes.
Explore Stanmer Park
With its beautiful woodland walks and extensive open lands, Stanmer Park is just as perfect for a family picnic as it is for a kick about with your friends or those looking for a bracing walk over the Downs. Situated next to Sussex University on the outskirts of the city, Stanmer is a perfect example of the vast open countryside available in Brighton and is the gateway to the South Downs National Park.
Kipling Gardens
Kipling Gardens were once part of The Elms, where Rudyard Kipling lived from 1897 to 1902. Now it is a beautifully space which the public can enjoy, highlights include the walled Rose,Herb and Wild Gardens. The Wild Garden can be used for picnics and the playing of croquet can be seen during the summer.
Devil’s Dyke
The longest 'dry' valley in the UK and home to the ruined ramparts of an Iron Age hill fort and the remains of a Victorian funfair, as well as some adventurous hang gliders! Perfect for everyone to let off some steam. What’s more there are regular buses so you don’t need to worry about parking.
Brighton Seafront
Voted one of the Top 10 city beach break destinations in the world, Brighton & its beachfront cool are legendary. If you’re feeling active then there are lots of things to do on Brighton beach from watersports such as kayaking and stand-up paddle boarding to classic beach sports such as volleyball and Frisbee. If that sounds too hectic then why not indulge in the simple pleasure of a refreshing paddle and maybe skim a few pebbles across the water?
One Garden
One Garden Brighton is a free to enter destination garden, a place to connect with nature and discover something different every day. One Garden Brighton is proudly presented and managed by Plumpton College. A walled garden, rediscovered, reinvented and opened to the public for the first time.
Leonardslee Lake & Gardens
Leonardslee Lakes and Gardens, described as ‘The Finest Woodland Gardens in England’, were first planted in 1801. Located in the heart of West Sussex, the 240-acre Grade I Listed gardens feature an outstanding scenery throughout the year.
Ditchling Beacon
Just outside of Brighton, Ditchling Beacon is the highest point in East Sussex, with expansive views across the Weald and the South Downs. Sunny days call for a picnic, windy ones for a spot of kite flying; there are birds and butterflies to look out for, the remains of an Iron Age hillfort and a manageable walk to nearby Blackcap.
Treat the kids and yourself to a breath of fresh air in any one of these locations and reset your summer holidays!
