Today we welcome guest contributions from Vassoula & Richard as they tell us why you need to visit Brighton Open Market the next time you are in the city...
I’m Vassoula, I used to run Kouzina, a little Greek kitchen in Brighton Open Market. Even though I’m not there cooking anymore, the market still holds a place in my heart.
If you’ve never been, you’re missing out. It’s one of those special places where the vibe is real, the food is fresh, and the people are just lovely. You can grab a coffee, browse handmade bits, try dishes from all over the world, and have a proper chat with the people behind the stalls. There’s nothing corporate or polished, it’s full of character, charm, and community.
Running Kouzina there wasn’t just about serving food, it was about sharing stories, seeing familiar faces, and being part of something bigger. It’s the kind of place where people know your name and ask how your day’s going and that’s pretty rare these days.
So whether you live in Brighton or you’re just visiting, please stop by the market.
Support the local traders who put their heart and soul into what they do and come and be part of our events. Try something new, buy something handmade, have a chat. You’ll walk away with more than just a full stomach, you’ll feel like you’ve connected with the real Brighton.
I’ll always be proud to have been part of the Open Market family. Go see what makes it so special, you’ll love it too.

I’m Richard, and I was part of the small team that helped set up the Community Interest Company (CIC) to support the Brighton Open Market. It was more than just a project—it was a coming together of people with an idea to create a space run with the community, for the community.
More than 10 years later, the Market is still buzzing with the voices of local traders, artists and visitors. While the city has changed around it, the Open Market remains a vital part of London Road with its own unique experience. You can feel it when you stop for a coffee, chat with a stallholder, or discover something handmade that you won’t find anywhere else.
It’s more than a market. It’s a place full of people and promise where neighbours meet and local talent has a platform. Brighton’s creativity and spirit are on full display.
But for the market to thrive it needs people. It needs residents and visitors who believe in it, who support it, and who help shape its future.
It needs you.
So if you haven’t visited in a while, or if you’ve never stepped through its gates, give it a try. Talk to the traders. Buy something small. Tell your friends. Remind yourself what a community-led space really feels like.
The Brighton Open Market is still special. Let’s keep it that way.
Richard
