Exclusive Behind-the-Scenes Tour: Restoration of St Peters, Brighton

About

Affectionately known as the cathedral of Brighton, St Peters is one of the citys most iconic and magnificent buildings. Designed by Sir Charles Barrylater architect of the Palace of Westminsterthe church has stood as a key feature of Brightons architectural skyline since the 19th century.

Due to its prominent coastal location, the building has suffered from decades of exposure to salt-laden winds and weathering. Though almost closed in 2005, St Peters was re-launched in 2009, and a significant programme of restoration has been underway ever since. Today, thanks to the dedicated work of specialist contractors DBR and the on-site team, the church is being returned to its former glory.
The Sussex Heritage Trust has been offered an exclusive opportunity to explore the current restoration of the churchs historic tower.

What to Expect:

* A guided tower roof and bell ringing tour led by DBR and Stuart Christie, Buildings & Facilities Manager
* Insight into the history and significance of St Peters through a short exhibition and video
* Three small group tours (30 minutes each) starting from 10:15am

Important Notes:

* Part of the tour includes climbing ladders and being at height
* Please wear comfortable clothing and sturdy footwear

We look forward to welcoming you to this unique experience of Brightons living heritage.
