Platform Asia and Dreamy Place present Natural Frequency, a new site-specific outdoor sound installation in Jubilee Square, Brighton, developed in collaboration with music label Chinabot and grassroots experimental music platform IKLECTIK.

The installation brings together four distinct sound works by Asian artists represented by Chinabot, including Ayankoko, Bamboo Mystics, Fahmi Mursyid and Sipaningkah. Moving between rhythmic, acoustic and atmospheric approaches, the works combine traditional instruments, percussion, field recordings and electronic sound.

A multi-speaker sound system has been specially developed for the site, allowing sound to move around the square. Visitors are invited to step inside, listen from different positions and experience how the works shift as they move through the space.

Natural Frequency brings together artists who use sound to carry memory, culture and place. Across the four works, traditional instruments, environmental recordings and electronic textures trace connections between inherited musical traditions, contemporary life and relationships with the natural world across Asia.

By transforming Jubilee Square into a temporary field of sound, the installation offers another way of experiencing public space: as somewhere to pause, listen and gather.

What to expect:

An outdoor, immersive sound installation featuring four works played through a multi-speaker system in Jubilee Square.

Visitors are invited to move around the square, listen from different positions and discover how the sound changes as they move through the space.

Duration: 25 minutes. Feel free to listen for a few seconds or hours. There is no time limit or start time.
