About

Portslade History Day is a free celebration of one of Brighton & Hove’s most historic neighbourhoods, inviting visitors to explore 1,000 years of local heritage in a relaxed and engaging way. Set in and around the Portslade conservation area, the event highlights the area’s remarkable past through a mix of self-guided discovery, historic locations and video-narrated trail stops.

Visitors can learn about buildings and landmarks that span the centuries, including Portslade’s oldest remaining building, which dates back to 1080, as well as an 800-year-old church, a 400-year-old pub and a former brewery. With 15 locations to discover, the trail offers a fascinating introduction to the stories, architecture and character that have shaped Portslade over the centuries. It is a great choice for anyone interested in local history, heritage and exploring a lesser-known part of the city as well as those looking for a free, fun family day out.
