We've decided to get to know some of our local business partners a bit better - and today we speak to Dominic Mills from Yuup...

Please tell us about your business and what you offer to visitors coming to Brighton

At Yuup, we connect people with amazing local experiences. In Brighton, that means everything from bread-making and stained-glass workshops to goat yoga and street art tours. It’s all about discovering the city in a unique, hands-on way led by locals who are genuinely passionate about what they do. We want visitors to leave with real stories, great memories, and maybe even a new hobby.

What do you like most about what you do?

Honestly, it’s seeing the difference we make. Whether someone’s found a new passion, uncovered a hidden gem in their own city, or a host is growing their business doing what they love. It’s those personal connections and moments that really matter. That’s what drives me.

What inspired you to start your business?

Before starting Yuup, I ran a marketing agency working for large brands. It was an incredible journey where I learned a huge amount, was part of a brilliant team, and had the opportunity to work on innovative projects. When I was fortunate to exit that business, I wanted to do something more community focused. I’ve always believed cities are full of talented people with amazing things to share - they just need a platform.  That idea is what sparked Yuup: a way to connect people through local experiences and support independents doing what they love.

What is the best thing about your work?

The best part of my work is the people. I get to collaborate with a team who care deeply about what we’re building, and with inspiring experience hosts who are passionate about sharing what they love. Seeing the difference we can make, whether it’s helping a host grow their independent business or giving someone a unique local experience, makes it all hugely rewarding.

What is your average day like, or is it never average?

It’s never average. One day might involve helping a host shape a new experience, the next collaborating on a marketing campaign or pitching for growth funding. No two days are the same, and that variety keeps things exciting and energising.

What would you like to be doing as an alternative career?

It’s hard to imagine doing anything other than Yuup right now. We’ve achieved a lot, but we’re only just getting started. There’s so much more we want to do to help thousands more people become experience hosts and to help hundreds of thousands discover those experiences. It’s exciting, meaningful, and exactly the kind of challenge I love.

What is next for you and your business?

We’re growing, both in Brighton and beyond. We’re deepening our support for hosts, exploring partnerships that help us reach more people, and using AI to make it even easier for hosts to onboard and for customers to discover experiences they’ll love. Our aim is to make local experiences a core part of how people explore and enjoy the places they live in or travel to.

What do you like most about Brighton and what is the best thing you like to do in the city?

Brighton’s got this creative, free-spirited vibe that I love. I’m a big fan of the Lanes, the indie food scene, and just being by the sea. A great day for me might start with a beach walk and coffee from Flour Pot, then something hands-on like pottery at Pepper Pot or a food tour. I’d finish up with dinner at one of the city’s amazing hidden restaurants - Burnt Orange is high on my list!

Thank you!
