Health & Wellbeing
In the 18th Century Dr Richard Russell helped to put Brighton on the map as he recommended people visit the destination to experience the health benefits of bathing in – and drinking – the seawater!
Whilst today we do not recommend drinking seawater, Brighton & Hove is still an ideal place for a Health & Wellbeing themed break. The fresh sea air and the close proximity to the countryside mean that a break to Brighton can help you rejuvenate mind, body and soul.
Accommodation
There are a wide variety of accommodation options both in the city centre and in the surrounding areas. From large seafront hotels and funky boutiques to stylish hostels and contemporary self-catering there are plenty of places that will help you relax & unwind.
Here is a small selection of places to consider:
- My Brighton - Described as where East meets West rooms at My Brighton each have a crystal and abide by the principles of Feng Shui.
- Malmaison - Escape the city centre and enjoy a relaxing break at Brighton Marina. The hotel has its own bar and restaruant and many of the rooms have waterfront views.
- Harbour Hotel - Many of the rooms have seaviews plus the hotel has its own luxurious underground spa with sauna, swimming pool and treatment rooms.
Once the accommodation has been booked then followed our suggested itinerary for a Health & Wellbeing break in Brighton:
Day One
Arrive in Brighton and check-in to your accommodation
Afternoon
Did you know that eating an ice-cream on Brighton beach was recently voted as one of Britain’s Ultimate Happy Places? As mental wellbeing is just as important as physical why not treat yourself to a scoop as you take a walk along the promenade; it’s definitely tastier than drinking sea water!
Past the colourful Hove beach huts you’ll find Lagoon Watersports where you can try Stand Up Paddleboard (SUP) Yoga where the board becomes your yoga mat. SUP yoga strengthens the core, improves your balance, tones muscles, reduces stress and increases body awareness.
Evening
Stroll back along the beachfront and take a flight on British Airways i360 and walk on air! From 450 feet up you’ll be able to see the city, the sea and the surrounding countryside.
Come back down to earth and enjoy fresh locally caught seafood with a view of the sea at The Copper Clam; Riddle & Finns or The Salt Room.
Day Two
Hire a bike and make your way to the South Downs National Park. There are cycling routes across the city making it easy to access the stunning Sussex countryside. As well as traditional bikes you can also hire an electric bike if you think you might need some assistance with those famous Brighton hills!
If you don’t fancy cycling there are regular buses so that you can still breeze up to the Downs and enjoy a refreshing walk across the countryside with beauty spots including Stanmer Park, Ditchling Beacon, and Devil’s Dyke.
Afternoon
After a morning of exercise treat yourself to a relaxing spa session. Did you know that on Brighton beach you can try an authentic Finnish sauna experience? Head to Beach Box Spa to relax in a wood-fired sauna you can even book a guided sauna with a 'Sauna Master' for the ultimate experience.
Alternatively you could release some endorphins with a laughter yoga session or a traditional yoga or Pilates workshop at the Natural Health Centre.
Evening
Laughter is good for the soul so head over to Komedia for a night of giggles at the weekly Krater Comedy Club. Brighton Dome and the Brighton Centre regularly host some of the biggest names from the comedy circuit.
Day Three
Wellbeing is not just about physical exercise, it’s important to take time away from our screens and to be creative. Make your way to The Art Shop or Painting Pottery Café, pick up a brush and get creative before heading home.
In between the activities you’ll find Brighton & Hove has plenty of places to dine out and still eat healthily, such as Lost in the Lanes café.
