First Annual Open Call Exhibition

About

Following a successful move to the historic Regent House in Brighton, Kellie Miller Arts Gallery is pleased to announce our first annual Open Call Exhibition.

Kellie and her team are mindful of the importance of this historic space to the Sussex community, from its conception as a part of the Prince Regent estate to its more recent use as the beloved family hardware store Dockerills. As a standalone independent gallery, there are only so many people the gallery can represent. We felt it important to share the opportunities this beautiful building presents with the greater artistic community, so we invited artists from across the region to submit.

Culminating in an outstanding representation of Sussex artistic talent, the exhibition showcases the variety and diversity of original art, particularly in a region with such a rich and evolving artistic history. Painting, photography, original print, textiles, sculpture and ceramics have been selected from 60 artists ranging from emerging to those more established.

Among those selected is Brighton-based Jim Naughten, a highly regarded and published photographer and painter who has exhibited at the Wellcome Collection and the National Portrait Galleries, among others. Here, he presents three pieces from his Biophilia series, an AI art project that encourages us to look deeper past the immediate sense of wonder and beauty to explore what is really going on beneath the surface.

Additional works include textured abstract paintings by Rosalind Lymer, ceramic vessels decorated in a Neolithic style by Dee Harvey, urban black and white photography by Dean Grossmith, and mixed media works by Sam Beck, among a unique collection of other artworks.
