Three people laughing together

About

Old Shoreham is the oldest and largest part of modern Shoreham-by-Sea, with a continuous history of settlemtn in the area spannign 3.500 years. It stood separate from its younger neighbour New Shoreham, a mile to the south, until just ninety years ago when the urban district was created.

Yet the history of this original Shoreham is under-researched and not widely known. Now, a new generation of 'citizen-researchers is digging into family histories, property deeds, newspaper arches, public records and theri own front gardens and backyards to create new stories of Old Shoreham. The FOldS History and Heritage Group have been working together for less than a year and have already uneartherd previously-forgotten or unlnown stories as they work together to create a virtual heritage trail across this area that can tell the story of Sussex in miniature
