John Evelyn spent most of his childhood in Lewes from the 1620s living at Southover Grange until he went to Oxford at the age of 17. What was he doing hefe when hois family lived at Wotton Hall in Surrey? We will find out about his Lewes background and ancestors and what happened after he left. He lived a long life through the tumultuous times of the Civil War and the restoration of the monarchy, through to the reign of Queen Anne. He was an important figure at the court of Charles II, a friend of Samuel Pepys and the writer of an extensive diary.
