Wildflowers in a field

About

Sink into the strange and beautiful world of bogs – unique, fragile ecosystems where time is layered into rich, dark soils.

In her book 'Peatlands', Alys Fowler revels in the magic of these mysterious landscapes where nature thrives in remarkable ways. Part personal exploration, part ecological call to attention, Fowler draws on her travels across the Border Mire, the Flow Country and beyond to capture the distinct atmosphere and biodiversity of these environments.

Explore what it means to be in relationship with these wild places – and what we stand to lose as peat continues to be extracted for horticulture.

In conversation with garden writer Claire Ratinon, Alys will reflect on peat's liminal nature, its cultural and environmental significance and the urgent need to change how we value and care for it.
