Rebel Resistors Radio Club

About

Come visit the Rebel Resistors Radio Club installation, a drop-in experience where you can explore the world that young Rebels are imagining and creating.

Rebel Resistors Radio Club have been building radios, writing manifestos and getting ready to re-shape the world.

RRRC invites 11yr old girls into a club that asks deep, profound questions in a playful & accessible way: where are we heading, where is power held & how will we share space together in an uncertain world? Working with analogue technologies and with a DIY approach, the Rebels build antennas, construct radios and think about what messages they might like to send into the world.

A message is also recorded that will be sent to the next group of Rebels; a DIY radio relay that will span the globe as the project tours and the network grows. RRRC builds an archive of voices of girls from across the world, talking about their visions for their shared future. From Stoke on Trent to Manila, from Hackney to Jakarta, from Reykjavik to Lagos, girls create a self-built space – a different kind of social network- to meet each other in ways that would not be possible in real life or in digital spaces.

The Rebels spend a week together, culminating in an installation where the girls’ manifestos are shared with a public audience, offering a glimpse into their process.

In a rapidly changing and unpredictable world, there is something incredibly potent about considering an old technology as the technology of the future. This notion is at the heart of Rebel Resistors Radio Club- imagining the world that young people might inherit from us, and tooling them up for a landscape that might be very different.

Rebel Resistors Radio Club considers how young people might be able not just to control the means of production, but literally build it themselves and use that space to talk about the future that they will create together.

This is a part of caravan assembly, a three-day event that presents contemporary performance made in England to an audience of international programmers and collaborators. The performances are open to the public as part of Brighton Festival and sit alongside a series of industry conversations and discussions for those participating in the assembly. caravan assembly is delivered by Farnham Maltings in partnership with Brighton Festival.
