About

Presented by Brighton & Hove Food Partnership

The future of gardening is wild. Join Alys Fowler and Kate Bradbury as they discuss how gardeners can help boost biodiversity, respond to climate change, and create spaces where both people and nature can flourish.

Alys Fowler

Alys Fowler is a gardener and an award-winning journalist who has written for the weekend Guardian about gardening and the environment. She has written eleven books, including Hidden Nature, which was shortlisted for the Wainwright prize in 2018, her latest book, Peatlands-a journey through land and water, won the BSBI and Wildflower Society's President's Award in 2025. She's currently a Leverhulme doctorate scholar at Keele University, looking at more-than-human relations on bogs and has started a very tiny, pot-free, peat-free, low-input wildflower nursery in Borth, Wales.

Kate Bradbury

Kate Bradbury is an award-winning writer specialising in wildlife gardening and the author of One Garden Against the World, The Bumblebee Flies Anyway, Wildlife Gardening for Everyone and Everything, How to Create a Wildlife Pond and The Tree in Your Garden. She’s the Wildlife Editor of BBC Gardeners’ World Magazine and has regular columns in BBC Wildlife Magazine and the Guardian's Country Diary. Her garden was featured as part of the BBC Springwatch Garden Watch campaign, and she and her garden have also appeared on Autumnwatch and Gardeners’ World.

Kate is patron for two charities: amphibian and reptile charity Froglife and bumblebee charity Bumblebee Conservation Trust. She is also an Ambassador for the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) and conservation charity Butterfly Conservation.

About Seedy Sunday

Kickstart the growing season at the city’s biggest gardening event - and the UK’s longest-running community seed swap.

At the heart of Seedy Sunday is a huge seed swap table where heritage & local seeds are donated and swapped. Everyone is welcome to bring seeds to swap, or make a small donation for a packet. A huge range of stallholders also offer seeds, gardening kit and much more for sale. Whether you have seeds to swap or not, Seedy Sunday is the perfect place to kick-off the growing season, getting seeds, materials & inspiration for the months ahead.

Entry to the event will be by donation on the day. Tickets for the event’s much-anticipated programme of talks will be on sale later this autumn.

Now in it's 20th year, Brighton and Hove Food Partnership are proud to organise Seedy Sunday. The Food Partnership was started by local residents in 2003, and the committed team of staff & volunteers deliver a range of food projects that have helped over 20,000 local people learn to cook, grow their own food, eat a healthier diet and waste less.
