About

Sound Affects is a night of talks about music and subcultures, how sound affects us and how music changes the world. It's organised and hosted by journalist and documentary filmmaker Jak Hutchcraft [http://jakhutchcraft.com/recent].

This is a night dedicated to synthesisers and electronic music.

Guest speakers:
Matthew Collin - Journalist and author known for his books_ Altered State _and _Rave On_. He has served as an editor for i-D magazine and the Time Out website, and his articles have appeared in the Guardian, the Observer, Mixmag, and the Wire, among others. His new book, _Dream Machines_, tracks electronic music's evolution from early avant-garde experiments after World War Two through psychedelia, art-rock and synth-pop to electronic dance music, sampling and the techno era.

Laurie Black - Classically-trained pianist turned synth-wielder, Laurie Black has performed around the world at festivals, tents, music venues and public toilets. With her unique satirical synthrock, she is as at home on gig line-ups as she is cabaret nights, and she even supported Adam Ant on his Antics tour in 2022.

Andrew Duff - Sound artist who experiments with audio-visual media, analogue and digital audio, and various forms of media artefacts. In 2014, he worked out how to convert an early 80s games console into a bizarre audio-visual musical instrument. His life hasn't been the same since.

£10 entry.
