The Country Wife

About

Presented by Southwick Players
Directed & Adapted by Steve Titchmarsh

Sex, lies, and scandal rule the town. Enter Harry Horner: a charismatic playboy who spreads a daring rumour that he's impotent, granting him unprecedented access to society's most "respectable" wives. While husbands drop their guard, Horner drops his... reputation, and chaos follows.

Among those caught up in the intrigue is Margery Pinchwife, a wide-eyed country girl newly arrived in the city, whose curiosity and awakening independence threaten to expose everyone's secrets.

The Country Wife receives a bold 1980s makeover, complete with big hair, shoulder pads, and a pumping pop soundtrack. Wycherley's razor-sharp satire proves that hypocrisy, desire, and bad behaviour never go out of fashion.

Please note: due to adult themes and innuendo, this production is recommended for ages 14+.
