About
Across the UK, the way we use and value land is evolving. From food production and water security to biodiversity and climate resilience, our landscapes are being asked to meet a growing number of demands – often at the expense of nature itself.
In this timely discussion, conservationist and 'Rebirding' author Benedict Macdonald considers what the future of land use could look like if nature were restored to the heart of decision-making. As Founder and Director of RESTORE, Benedict draws on extensive experience working alongside farmers and landowners to bring degraded landscapes back to life – from beaver wetlands on working farms to large-scale habitat restoration on former arable ground.
Rather than framing restoration and farming as opposing forces, this session explores how they can work hand in hand. It is a vision for a more diverse, resilient countryside – where food production, nature, and local livelihoods are not in conflict but in balance.
With ecological pressures mounting, this conversation asks what role restoration can play in shaping a more sustainable future for British farming, and what it will take to make that vision a reality.
