About

This century has seen a huge rise in dictatorships across the globe.

As democracy has retreated, populism has reared its head, leaving the old world order in its wake. In her latest book, 'Autocracy Inc', Pulitzer Prize-winning historian and journalist Anne Applebaum has blown the lid on what she describes as an unprecedented slide into autocracy.

She will be joined by Gideon Rachman, chief foreign affairs commentator for the Financial Times and author of 'The Age of The Strongman: How the Cult of the Leader Threatens Democracy around the World'. Together they will discuss the practices that have enabled this worrying transformation and what this means for the future.
