Christmas Shopping can be tricky but in Brighton it is a breeze as you'll find independent shops selling anything and everything helping you tick everyone off the list whilst perhaps picking up the odd treat for yourself along the way.

To help get you started we've picked a few of our favourite shops and shopping areas to explore this Christmas. We've grouped them together into an approximate route from Brighton Station to the seafront to help you plan your shopping spree by the sea. 

North Laine

Turn left out of the station and you'll find yourself in the North Laine. Yes that is the correct spelling and no there is no East, West or South Lanes! Laine is a Sussex dialect term for an open tract of land at the base of the Downs. Anyway we came here to shop, not for a history lesson so let's go!

Julian Stephens Goldsmith

The Martlets Shop

If you're looking for a gift for a collector or vintage-lover then you'll love The Martlets Shop as it is perfect for treasure-hunters and fashionistas. You’ll find clothes and accessories from the 1920s through to the 1980s. There’s also small furniture, glassware, crockery and much, much more.


Enter Gallery

A visit to Enter Gallery is a unique experience for the art lover. Discover hundreds of hard-to-find art prints, limited editions and exclusive works from both world-famous and cutting-edge artists including Sir Peter Blake, Damien Hirst and Pure Evil, plus local artists such as Sara Pope, Richard Berner and Eelus.


Brunswick Fine Wines

Multi-award-winning Brunswick Fine Wines & Spirits features bespoke oak cabinets, shelving, grand Champagne wine wall, tasting room and fine wine cellar all of which provide a unique retail setting for customers.


The Lanes

Once you cross over North Street you'll be leaving the North Laine and entering The Lanes. This quirky labyrinthian area is a joy to wander around with its narrow alleyways, hidden squares and of course all the exciting shops.

Hanningtons Lane

Beautifully designed and curated, the pedestrian only Hanningtons Lane is home to makers, designers and pioneers. A green wall and iconic art murals give the area an intimate atmosphere, away from the hustle and bustle.


Kellie Miller Arts

With the aim of encouraging the collection of original art, Kellie Miller Arts is an award-winning, independent art gallery, established by renowned artist and curator, Kellie Miller. 


Nancy Meiland Parfums

Nancy Meilan shaped her career designing signature scents for those coveting something highly individual and special. Her philosophy is that every scent envelops the wearer thereby redefining their space and subtly projecting the image of you that you wish to convey.  Visit her studio in The Lanes to discover yourself through scent.


Baroque Jewellery

The award-winning store can be found in a former fisherman’s cottage, where the talented team of goldsmiths design and produce engagement rings, wedding bands and bespoke creations from their on-site workshop.


Dukes Lane

Dukes Lane is in the middle of The Lanes and is home to a vibrant community of independent stores & boutiques offering visitors a warm welcome. 


FAIR

FAIR have a fabulous range of womenswear, accessories and a developing selection of menswear. Their handcrafted home décor and jewellery is made by refugees across the world


Seafront 

Brighton is famous for its vibrant beachfront where there is so much more to see than just the sea! Along the lower promenade you'll find art & photography galleries, independent shops selling fabulous cool gifts, beachwear, beach gear and souvenirs. 

Brighton Photography

Brighton Photography features the very best photography of Brighton and the South Downs by some of the city’s favourite photographers. The gallery offers framed and unframed prints in various sizes, alongside a range of greetings cards, photobooks and the stunning Brighton Sea Views Calendar.


Atelier by the Sea

Atelier by the Sea is a gallery and art space as well as a shop. The shop specialises in beautiful and practical handmade work: ceramics, textiles, jewellery, print, painting and sculpture.
