The UK 2026 coffee report is out, and Brighton & Hove has been declared the top spot for finding an independent coffee shop by Capital in Tap!

Beating off other cities, Brighton came first with the highest percentage of independent coffee shops per 100,000 residents. We love our independent foodie’s scene and celebrate a step away from the mainstream. Join us as we take a closer look at the small Brighton & Hove coffee houses brewing up a storm!

Trading Post

With one of the most varied range of beans and blends in the city, Trading Post Coffee stands for natural, sustainable, fair trade, premium coffee. They pride themselves on their unique artisan roasting method refined by their Master Roasters who come from two generations of coffee roasters.

Lost in the Lanes

Alongside amazing breakfast and brunch options, Lost in the Lanes serves speciality coffees every day, working with Murmuration coffee, you can be sure your morning coffee does both you and the people harvesting the beans good!

Sea Lanes Café

Sea Lanes isn’t just a wellness wonderland; it’s also a hub for excellent food and drink. FIKA serves damn good coffee and an epic brunch to boot. Enjoy a post swim cuppa or head down with friends for fantastic views and spectacular brews.

Café Domenica

 A café with a conscience, Café Domenica is staffed by young people with learning disabilities to help them into employment. From bean to bag, their candidates roast, prepare and package high-quality, delicious coffee beans at the Roastery in Kemptown, Brighton. Plus, their Speciality House Coffee and Decaf Coffee are both available as whole bean or ground, and as retail or wholesale items.

Cup of Joe

Cup of Joe is a stylistic and unique café located in the vintage antique market Kemptown Trading Post. It is designed to be a chilled-out place where you can listen to some music, work on your laptop or just enjoy some very good quality coffee, as well as sample the large selection of Nova Teas and English cakes.

Café at Yellowave 

With two venues situated right on the beach, alongside their beach volleyball facilities, they make the perfect spot to relax with a coffee and watch the world go by. Serving Red Roaster organic coffees, along with a menu that supports local and independent suppliers across the city, Yellowave brings Californian beach vibes with local heart.

BAKED

Serving up locally roasted Trading Post coffee, the freshest flavours and best brunch vibes. Here you can appreciate one of their speciality single origin blends, making your morning cortado that bit extra special. Plus, they are very dog friendly so you can appreciate fresh ingredients and that perfect brunch experience for you and your furry companion.
