The Black Lion is a pub with personality and a history dating back more than 500 years!  Located slap-bang in the centre of The Lanes on the site of one of the oldest breweries in the world, The Black Lion transforms daily from bustling foodie pub to one of Brighton’s busiest late night venues.  With bands early in the week to the city’s finest DJ’s spinning vinyl at the weekends and a large heated and covered beer garden, this is a pub that covers all bases.

Our food is all about getting back to basics using fresh, local and seasonal ingredients, keeping to traditional classic pub flavours – but with a modern twist.  Our dynamic kitchen team by SPACE + THYME builds on The Black Lion’s reputation year-on-year as one of the most popular pubs in Brighton, so expect great gastro comfort food that’s totally packed with flavour!  The Black Lion serves one of the best Sunday roasts in Brighton, and was awarded 13th spot overall for ‘Best Sunday Roast’ in this years Restaurants Brighton Awards.

Music plays a huge part in making the Black Lion what it is.  Our DJs have a pretty simple brief: “Keep ‘em smiling and make ‘em dance!”.  You’ll hear new/old school hip hop, northern soul, Motown, funk, R’n’B, rock & roll, ska, mod revival, indie and punk… often on the same night!

And our experienced bar staff can whip up your favourite cocktail or a brilliant Bloody Mary.  Or choose from a bar filled with great local craft beers, ales and IPA’s as well as a decent wine list.  Whatever your drink of choice, you’ll find it at The Black Lion.  Cheers!
